A Simple Question: Why Obama?

I’m finding that a lot of people I know are in the Obama camp, yet I cannot seem to get an objective matter-of-fact answer as to why they support him.

Here’s what I’m looking for: Why do you support and plan to vote for Barak Obama? Specifically, what plans does he have that you find will improve your life or the well-being of the USA?

I emphasize “specifically” because that’s the one thing I can’t seem to get out those I talk to: Specific plans, ideas, etc.

It’s disturbing at how may folks immediately cite Bush in their criteria, yet Bush is not on the ballot. What’s more, McCain isn’t exactly a Bush fan.

Anyway, I would just like to hear from ONE person. I’d like to hear ONE matter-of-fact reason that doesn’t use the hyperbole of “hope” or “change.” Enough with the soap opera crap – give me the bottom line, the what-will-you-do-for-me answer.

At this point I’m not sure that this is possible. I don’t know that Obama supporters can be objective and factual without a copy-and-paste job from the Obama website (Drew, this is not aimed at you). I can read a website. I want to hear your conviction as to why you support him, and why specific plans appeal to you.

I should say that I’m not pounding the keyboard here, scowling and using a downbeat tone. I’m actually quite amused by the whole presidential race thing, and like the conversations that are happening… who’s up for this?!

To summarize what I’m looking for:

  • No use of George W. Bush in your reasoning. If you going to do this, you should be intelligent enough to meet this criteria.
  • No use of the words “change” or “hope.” These are branding terms. You are not your f**king khakis. Use language of your own.
  • No quotes from the Obama website. I can read a site. I want conviction. Conviction is when you believe in something and know it so much that you can recite it in your words at will.

At stake here is my vote. I am done with the GOP, and right now I’m planning on voting either for a Democrat, Libertarian, or if Ron Paul is on the ballot, him. Convince me to vote for Barak!
